Updates and Database Replacement

The PMA Parts Finder is segmented into two major files.  The larger file contains data on parts and holders and undergoes almost daily revision as parts are added and listings revised with better or more current data.  The second component is the program intelligence by which the data is manipulated and turned into meaningful information.  This component also undergoes change from time to time, but not nearly so often as the PMA data itself.

Both of these program components can be updated easily through web access.

A.  A Live Update of data process can be instituted from within the PMA Parts Finder.  Just go to the Updates page of the program and click the Live Update button.  The update file will then be downloaded and merged into the existing data file.

B.  If, for any reason, the Live Update process doesn't work (Some corporate networks may prohibit this type of web access) a database update file can be downloaded and then installed.  From the website updates page,  www.aviationdata.com/updates.htm download the update and place it in your C:\PMAUpdate folder then start the program, go to the Updates page and click the Install Update button.

C.  To update the program intelligence portion close the PMA Parts Finder.  Click on Start, PMA Parts Finder and then click on the Upgrade Program shortcut icon.  A form will load that contains a command button to upgrade the program by downloading and installing the latest version. .

D.  You also may, at any time, elect to completely replace the program and database with a fresh installation.  This process is required if you have not updated either the program or the database for more than 90 days.  Just click on this link www.aviationdata.com/download/PPFVer6.exe to download a new installation.  Before installing a new installation make sure you have recorded your unlock code so you can unlock the new program.  (The unlock code is shown on the Utilities page or tab of the program.)

CAUTION:  If your update subscription has expired you can continue to use the installed program and its existing data.  However, if you try to install a fresh installation it will not unlock because there is no valid and current update subscription so you will be left with a non-functioning PMA Parts Finder.  Because outdated databases are not maintained there is no recovery from this error.
